With Thanksgiving only a couple days away, most of us will be getting together with friends and family to celebrate the holiday. We will be fixing huge feasts, watching football on TV and enjoying the day off work.
There is much more to this time of year than just the good food and fun. All across the US and the rest of the world there are families that are not as fortunate as you and I. People are struggling each day to put a basic meal on the table or keep a roof over their head.
I recently found out about a cause called #GivingTuesday. The idea behind it is a day for giving back. Thanksgiving is a day for giving thanks, Black Friday and Cyber Monday are days to get great deals and now #GivingTuesday is a day for giving back to those less fortunate. This year #GivingTuesday will take place on November 27, 2012.
My friend Kevin from SpingCoin.com told me about an organization called, Givology.com. It is 100 percent volunteer based and all of the proceeds go towards projects in developing countries. To do my share this year, I have decided that I will be donating to empower teen survivors of abuse with education.
I chose to give to this cause because my wife and I just had our first daughter and I hate the thought of any child being harmed in any way. I want to help these children move on from their past and enjoy everything life has to offer.
If you would like to give back, Givology will be matching all donations dollar for dollar during the month of November. To help get the season of giving started Givology.com will give OneSmartDollar.com readers the chance to win one of five Givology.com gift cards.
I have never heard of Givology before. Thanks for sharing! I also hadn’t heard of Giving Tuesday until this year. I think that is a great idea.
